Research Interest
Steve graduated magna cum laude from Rogers State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling. He also earned the exemplary graduate award for 2007/2008, an honor bestowed for his excellence in academics, community service, and leadership (most notably he encouraged students to participate in research, attend conferences and join him in community service activities). In 2009, he was accepted into the Applied Biopsychology program at the University of New Orleans where he will be working with Dr. Denis Soignier to better understand the relationships of pain, cognition and opiate medication. Steve’s research interests further include the effects of stimulants on pain and cognition, drug interaction between stimulants and opiates and their role on pain, cognition and learning & memory. Additionally, he is also interested in how stimulant and opiate addiction processes affect cognition and learning and memory. Finally, he hopes to conduct translational research utilizing animal models and human subjects’ research.
